Meth Decontamination

Utah Administrative Rule R392-600, known as the Illegal Drug Operations Decontamination Standards, outlines the procedures and requirements for cleaning properties contaminated by methamphetamine production or use. Administered by the Utah Department of Health and Human Services under the authority of the Illegal Drug Operations Site Reporting and Decontamination Act (Utah Code § 19-6-906), this rule mandates that properties exceeding a contamination level of 1.0 microgram of methamphetamine per 100 square centimeters must undergo professional decontamination. The process includes a preliminary assessment, submission of a work plan, thorough cleaning, and confirmation sampling conducted by a certified decontamination specialist. Upon successful remediation, a final report is submitted to the local health department for approval, after which the property can be deemed safe for occupancy. This regulation ensures that affected properties are restored to a condition that safeguards public health
